Update 2015/07/22

Hello everyone! Long time no see(post)! I actually started writing this three days ago, but I got busy and haven't gotten to finishing it until now. We have been making a lot of progress over the last week and a half, with the game now being about 46% done. We have finished the initial development of the fantasy part! That means that it's on to the Sci-Fi part, and then into playtesting and polishing.

New

1.
We now have a submission page up on gamedevfort!
It currently is pretty lacking, but it does have some screenshots from a earlier alpha of the game. We will have a description going up soon with a basic premise of the game being outlined.

2.
We have some other art from our artists we want to post, but that will come out a little later.

Other than that not much is new, we are really grinding away at getting the game done in time to have some playtesting done before we have to put the download link up. I'll have another update going up later this week that shows the fantasy part a bit more in depth. Until then, stay classy gamers!

Progress Update: July 11th 2015

Hello! It's your friendly neighbourhood video game blog writer back again, here to give you a update on development.

Development Cycle:

We are going to have six different parts in our development cycle
  1. Initial development - We will develop the entire game and make sure it is in a playable state
  2. First Playtest - We will be doing a closed playtest in a attempt to flesh out every bug we can
  3. Bugfix - We will be fixing all of the bugs that we found
  4. Revisions - We will make any major revisions we want to make here
  5. Second Playtest - Most likely another closed (but possibly open) playtest, mainly for opinion and crippling bugs
  6. Bugfix part 2 - Fix any other bugs and then submit
CURRENTLY IN PART 1: INITIAL DEVELOPMENT

I would say we are definitely over a quarter done the entire initial development, meaning we are over half done the fantasy part of the game. Thank god for Albert, if I was doing this alone it would be nowhere close to where it is right now.

So that's what development is going to look like and where we are right now!

Other News:

Exciting news! We currently have two artists (personal friends) who are doing for credit art commissions for us! We are excited to have them both and can't wait to start showing some of the art they are making!

That's all for me right now, hope you have enjoyed this short little update. Five days done, 26 to go!

Learning Events are not NPC's

So today I made my first major (well kinda major) fuck up from not knowing what I am doing! While working on making my first cutscene I decided that the more switches I had, the better off I would be. Well that backfired. Hard. Luckily, to my full access were the lovely and helpful people over at the RPG Maker forums. I posted a link to a album of my event pages (4 pages for a simple cutscene!) and within an hour got a response linking to a blog article titled "Events aren't NPCs: The Biggest Mistake in Cutscene Events" [link] Following the advice in this article I got my event down from four pages to just two! (with the extra needed for player interaction) Thanks to Shaz on the forums for posting that to my small plea for help!

Sprites

Here are some of the sprites that we have put together in Game Character Hub. Hope you enjoy.

Indie Game Maker Contest

Welcome

This year I am doing the Indie Game Maker Contest with two friends. This is our first full game development. I will be documenting our progress here, from creation to submission. Here is some basic information on our game.

Concept

We are making a RPG about a person who is stuck inside of a RPG (haha). The protagonist (male) has the ability to travel between a fantasy and sci-fi world, which is one of the main plot elements.

Engine

We are using RPGMaker VXAce to make this game.

Other Software

  • Game Character Hub - To assist with spriting (makes life so easy)
  • GIMP - For spriting on my Chrombook

Us

  • Mitchel - Me: blog writer, main spriter, writer, developer
  • Albert - Main developer, writer, spriter
  • Rakeen - Developer
We are really excited to be participating in the contest! Good luck to everyone!
